Retractable lens zoom
This is the most common optical zoom lens found on non SLR type digital cameras.These zoom lenses retract into the camera body when the camera is off and extend when it's on.
These are suited to: sophisticated tourists, students on a budget and quality compact camera cognoscenti.
This type of zoom lens allows :
• Very compact, portable camera design
• Protection by built-in cover
These points are the drawbacks :
• Generally doesn't support lens converters or filters
• Zoom range is often limited to 2x or 3x mag.
• Lens extension may increase camera start-up time
• Zoom Lens mechanics may use more power than a fixed lens.
